Visa Checklist

A checklist to help assure your application is not rejected:

  • Is my passport signed?
  • Is my application signed?
  • Is my passport valid for at least 6 months?
  • Does my passport have blank visa pages?
  • Have I completely filled out my application?
  • Are my photos 2x2 on a white background?
  • Is my travel itinerary on travel agency or airline letterhead?
  • Is my business letter signed by an officer in the company other than me?
  • Have I provided copies of my Alien Registration Card or other U.S. status (for foreign passports)?

NOTE: This is only a partial list of possible errors. At American Visa Service we try to proofread all applications before submission but we cannot assume responsibility for every potential mistake. Please call us with questions.

Get a Foreign Visa

Many countries only require a valid passport for entry, but for others a Visa is necessary in advance. The Visa provides permission from a Consulate or Embassy to enter their country and usually is a stamp placed directly into the passport.

Please note: We do NOT assist with foreign nationals traveling to the US. For US Visas you will need to contact US Immigration in your area.

The basic process

You will need to provide a set of documents (passport, application, letter from you rcompany, etc.) to American Visa Service which we will hand-carry to the specific Consulate or Consulates. If additional documents or other information is required by the Consulate, AVS will contact you immediately. When the Visa is completed we pick it up and deliver it to you.

In nearly all cases AVS will obtain your passport or visa and meet your date of departure as well as explain all the requirements in advance, but there are many possible errors which can occur. Please see the column to the left on this page for a partial list of things to check before sending your documents.

Please note that while we can help expedite the process of obtaining a Visa we cannot control the time it takes a Consulate to complete their security measures, paperwork, etc. You must allow sufficient time to obtain the Visas you need and American Visa Service, Inc. is not responsible for delays or missed flights caused by a Consular Office.

Start by choosing your destination:*

* If you do not see your destination listed here it may be that this country has no Consulate in Chicago or that a Visa is not required for US Passport holders. Click HERE for a list of countries only processed in Washington, DC. Please see the "Contact" tab above to inquire about countries not listed.

NOTE: Documents not in our office by 9:30 a.m. (CST) may be submitted the following business day and/or may be charged additional rush fees to meet a date of departure. We suggest you ship documents by UPS Next Day Air as all other options generally arrive after 9:30 a.m. AVS is not responsible for deliveries to our office. American Visa Service, Inc. is not responsible for passports lost, delayed or damaged by any government office, Consulate or delivery service. American Visa is not responsible for the websites of other offices nor for problems with those sites. Fees and/or requirements may change with little or no advance notice. All cancelled orders will incur a 3% credit card fee to cover the fees AVS is charged by Visa/MC/Amex to process charges and refunds.
