Why do I have to pay Rush fees?
American Visa Service makes every effort to avoid charging Rush fees unless they are necessary. Our Rush fees are based on the actual time it takes to process a visa or passport and are not arbitrary. So if a visa takes only 2 days to process, we do not charge Rush fees unless you ask for it in less than 2 days because that means we must make it a priority and may have to request the Consular staff to do us a favor.
Our Rush fees are a little more complicated than other services who charge Rush fees based on a single formula - all requests for less than 3 day processing have an "Emergency Fee" even if the visa normally only takes 2 days - but ultimately this saves you money.
